The Emmanuel University Research Department is a fully established department tasked with supporting research culture in social, behavioural, economic, and educational research within the university. The Research Department established the Emmanuel University Research Ethics Committee (EMUNIREC).
EMUNIREC is formed in adherence to the University’s Research and Consultancy Policy and in compliance with the National Commission for Science and Technology (NCST), a national regulatory agency responsible for the establishment, approval, and operation of research ethics in Malawi. EMUNIREC is thus a university institutional research committee tasked with ensuring the dignity, rights, safety, and well-being of all current or prospective participants in the University’s and its researchers’ social, behavioural, economic, and educational research. EMUNIREC is currently under review by NCST and will specifically responsible for:

EMUNIREC is currently under review by NCST and will specifically responsible for:
1. Review and approve research protocols submitted by EMUNIREC faculty, staff, students, partners, and affiliates.
2. Ensure participant safety, privacy, and confidentiality in EMUNIREC-approved research
3. Monitoring permitted research protocols to ensure compliance with EMUNIREC’s ethical criteria.
4. Respond to and investigate complaints of ethical violations in EMUNIREC-approved research.
5. Suspend or terminate EMUNIREC-approved research if it violates ethical standards.
6. Perform various duties to promote research and protect participants.
