On Friday, 6th March 2026, Emmanuel University took a significant step in its commitment to academic excellence by hosting a specialized training session on the Malawi Higher Education Qualifications Framework (MHEQF).

The workshop brought together our dedicated academic staff and curriculum designers to focus on aligning our module learning outcomes with national standards. The session provided an in-depth look at the MHEQF descriptors, which define the expected knowledge, skills, and competencies for each level of higher education.

A key highlight of the training was the practical application of these standards. Our team engaged in exercises to review current modules, ensuring that learning outcomes and assessments accurately reflect the intended level of study. Facilitators guided participants on identifying cognitive demand through specific verbs and adjectives, reinforcing that modules within a single program can—and should—span different levels to ensure progressive student development.

By ensuring our assessments are perfectly aligned with learning outcomes, we are strengthening academic integrity and enhancing the educational experience for our students. This initiative is part of our ongoing dedication to meeting and exceeding national quality standards, preparing our graduates for success on both a national and international stage.
