EMMANUEL UNIVERSITY – September 5, 2025, marked a significant and spiritually charged Friday at Emmanuel University, seamlessly blending cherished tradition with the exciting promise of a new beginning. The weekly Special Hour, a cornerstone of the university’s community life, served as the backdrop for a pivotal announcement that has set the tone for the institution’s future.
As has been the custom every Friday, the community gathered in reflection and worship. This week’s message centered on a powerful passage from the Gospel of Mark, chapter 10, verses 51-52. The verses recount the story of blind Bartimaeus, whom Jesus asks, “What do you want me to do for you?” Bartimaeus replies, “Rabbi, I want to see.” Jesus responds, “Go, your faith has healed you,” and immediately his sight is restored.
The preaching illuminated themes of clarity of vision, persistent faith, and the transformative power of a direct encounter with truth. It was a message that resonated deeply, challenging students and staff alike to identify what they truly seek and to have the faith to pursue it.
Following this moment of spiritual grounding, the atmosphere shifted to one of eager anticipation. The podium was then used to introduce the university community to its new leader, Dr. Ian Morris, who was officially welcomed as the incoming Vice-Chancellor.
Dr. Morris addressed the gathered students, faculty, and staff with a warmth and clarity that immediately engaged the audience. He spoke of his honour in joining the Emmanuel family and shared his vision for the university—one built on academic excellence, unwavering faith, and a profound sense of shared purpose.
He acknowledged the legacy he is inheriting and expressed his commitment to stewarding the university forward with innovation and integrity. However, it was his closing remark that truly captured the essence of his leadership philosophy and sent a wave of enthusiastic agreement through the auditorium.
“I believe deeply that here at Emmanuel, our strength lies in our community,” Dr. Morris stated. “And so, I leave you with this simple but powerful truth to carry into this new semester and beyond: Teamwork makes the dream work.”
The phrase, met with smiles and applause, was more than just a catchy adage; it was a declaration of his collaborative approach. It signaled a leadership style that values every contributor—from the first-year student to the most senior professor—as an essential part of the university’s mission.
The closing of the Special Hour felt like the opening of a new chapter. The biblical call to have clear vision and faith was perfectly complemented by the new Vice-Chancellor’s call to unified action. The Emmanuel University community departed not just with a new verse to reflect upon, but with a new rallying cry and a leader poised to guide them in turning their collective dreams into reality.
