Emmanuel University Launches WESNED Project.

Emmanuel University has launched the Women Empowerment and Special Needs Education (WESNED) project in 24 primary schools in Lilongwe Rural East and Dedza, in a bid to support female teachers and bridge the skills gap in teachers teaching learners with disabilities.

Vice Chancellor for the University Mcpherson Jere said the project draws its inspiration from the government’s initiatives to advance inclusive and special needs education.

According to WESNED’s Project Coordinator Jeffrey Maganga the project will provide sponsorships to female teachers seeking to upgrade to diploma level and offer scholarships to female secondary school students.

WESNED is a three-year initiative funded by Bread for the World with a budget of K714 million to support women in the education sector and enhance learning opportunities for students with special needs.
